As of January 10th, the Kourend Favour system was removed from OSRS.

It wasn’t perfect, and a lot of players will be happy to know it’s gone. Grinding out favour for the various Kourend houses felt like a boring chore you had to go through on every account build you made.

Personally, I never minded favour, even after completing it on multiple accounts. It’s boring sure, but if I’m being honest, boring ‘repetitive’ tasks is kind of what Old School is, isn’t it?

I get it though, removing it felt necessary for the health of the game. The team is onto something there. But it leaves a lot of dead space, as was pointed out in this video by He Box Jonge.

He urges Jagex to not just ‘abandon’ the areas left behind, but put something in its place.

In his words:

‘Dear Jagex, OSRS is an MMORPG pls remember that, ty’.

And the suggestions made in his video, are honestly quite good.

He urges the Old School team to bring back simple one-off ‘favours’ for the different houses, in return for small experience lamps.

This doesn’t change anything for anyone, EXCEPT for new players.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could have an influx of traffic from our newest players, as well as new account builds, inside the Great Kourend?

Similar to how players visit the Stronghold of Security on a fresh account, they could visit the Great Kourend to complete these favours, and skip some early level-skilling.

This could really liven up the Great Kourend, a big, beautiful chunk of land that is currently VERY empty.

More things to do, and more lore, would be beneficial for the health of the game.

Especially with the brand new expansion Varlamore coming out soon, on the same continent as the Great Kourend.

We are getting a ton of new content in this update, but that doesn’t mean we should abandon other places in the game.

I’m super excited about Varlamore, and obviously, it takes priority, but I stand by He Box Jonge that we shouldn’t just kill Kourend Favour, and leave the areas deserted.

I would really love it if we could have more early-game content inside the newer areas, and bringing back a simplified version of ‘Kourend Favours’ for newer players is a great opportunity to make this happen.

Kourend deserves some love too. Let’s not just abandon it.

In 2013 he switched to OSRS Servers and never looked back.
