The Trident of the Swamp is a 4-tick magic weapon that requires 78 Magic to wield and uses an in-built spell, allowing you to use the staff while being on any spellbook of your preference or without having a rune pouch in your inventory. That doesn’t mean the Trident of the Swamp is free in use, it needs to be charged with a combination of runes and Zulrah scales to use.

When charged, the Trident of the Swamp is a very powerful Magic weapon that is only beaten by the Sanguinesti Staff & Tumeken’s Shadow.

The Trident of the Swamp is an essential weapon for CoX Raids, which require a powerful 4-tick weapon to match The Great Olm’s 4-tick attack style.

The Trident of the Swamp should not be mistaken for the Trident of the Seas, which is the weaker version of the two (we’ll make a comparison later on).

When purchasing a Trident of the Swamp, you have to choose between getting the regular version or opting for the enhanced version. Aside from a notable price difference, the only difference these two staves have is that the non-enhanced version holds 2,500 charges whereas the enhanced version can hold up to 20,000 charges.

How to charge the trident of the swamp

The Trident of the Swamp can only be bought while uncharged, with the uncharged variant being called ‘ Uncharged Toxic Trident’.

To charge your Toxic Trident, you need to add 1 death rune, 1 chaos rune, 5 fire runes, and 1 zulrah scale for each charge. Charging the trident until full (2,500 charges) costs 860k GP in total.

It’s recommended to only use it for high-level bossing and raiding and not Magic training as it’s far too expensive to use.

Trident of the Swamp vs Trident of the Seas

Both the Trident of the Seas and Trident of the Swamp are made from the Toxic Trident, which are dropped by Cave Kraken. They both have a built-in spell, they both have a 4-tick speed, both need to be charged, and the max hit for both staves scales with your magic level.

The difference lies in the price of the charges, and the max-hit they produce. At all times, the Trident of the Swamp will hit +3 more than the Trident of the Seas. This is a very notable increase in DPS, making the Trident of the Swamp far better than the Trident of the Seas for bossing and raiding.

In fact, you will have a very hard time finding a raiding team if they notice you are using a Trident of the Seas instead of a Trident of the Swamp.

Another key difference is how they are charged. Both tridents require 1 Death Rune, 1 Chaos Rune & 5 Fire runes. The Trident of the Seas requires an extra 10 GP per charge and the Trident of the Swamp requires an additional Zulrah Scale for each charge. This puts the price for a fully charged Trident of the Seas at 572k whilst a fully charged Trident of the Swamp costs 860k GP.

Thus the Trident of the Swamp is more expensive to use but also has a higher damage output than the Trident of the Seas.

In most cases, you will want to use the Trident of the Swamp for the extra DPS. The Trident of the Seas is mainly used by Ironmen who have obtained the Toxic Trident as a drop from Cave Kraken but haven’t yet received the Magic Fang drop from Zulrah to turn it into the Trident of the Swamp.

How to get Trident of the Swamp

Main accounts can get a Trident of the Swamp from the Grand Exchange by buying an uncharged toxic trident and charging it with the aforementioned runes and zulrah scales.

ironman guide Ironman will have to grind out the Slayer skill to 87 and receive the Uncharged Trident from Cave Kraken which can only be killed on-task. Boosting Slayer is not possible as you cannot be assigned a task above your real Slayer level. Furthermore, they will need to Grind out Zulrah until they obtain the Magic Fang drop which can be combined with the Toxic Trident to turn it into the Trident of the Swamp. Making the Trident of the Swamp requires 59 Crafting.

For ironmen, however, the Trident of the Seas is a pretty good weapon until they are able to upgrade. Main accounts should always use the Trident of the Swamp.

Trident of the Swamp is great at CoX

The Trident of the Swamp is recommended for learners to use at Chambers of Xeric if they don’t have the funds for a Sanguinesti Staff which is the next upgrade. Since Chambers of Xeric can earn you up to 5M per hour, this is a great use case for the Trident of the Swamp.
