In this OSRS The Dig Site Quest Guide, we’ll go through all the steps to complete the quest.

There are no quest requirements.

Buy these items from the Grand Exchange before starting the quest:

  • Pestle and Mortar
  • Vial
  • Tinderbox
  • Cup of Tea
  • Rope
  • Opal (ironman: obtainable during quest by panning)
  • Charcoal (ironman: obtainable during quest by searching Specimen Trays)

The Dig Site Quest Guide

This quest guide is color-coded.

Quest Start

Speak with the Examiner in the Varrock Exam Centre to start the quest. Dialogue 1-1

Teleport to Varrock and speak with Curator Haig in the Varrock Museum.

Travel back to the Dig Site and speak with the examiner once again.

She will start the first exam. Answer anything you want, you will fail the quest regardless.

Getting Answers from Students

Now we will ask some students for help with the exam answers, but first, we’ll need to do them some favors.

Search the highlighted bush (the second bush next to the Blue Urn) to find a teddy bear.

Run down the stairs and pick up the Panning Tray in the first tent.

Now speak with the Panning Guide underneath the tent. Give him your cup of tea.

After speaking with the Panning Guide, pan at the Panning Point until you find a Special Cup.

Next, pickpocket workmen until you have an Animal Skull and Specimen Brush.

Then, speak with the student with blonde pigtails. (Northwest side) Speak with her again to return her teddy bear.

Next, speak with the student in the orange shirt. Speak with him again to return his special cup.

Next, speak with the student in the green shirt. Speak with him again to return his animal skull

Exam #1

Once you have received test answers from the 3 students, return to the exam centre and speak with the Examiner once again to take the first test.

Exam Answers:

  • (1) The study of the Earth, its contents, and history
  • (3) All that have passed the appropriate Earth Sciences exam
  • (2) Gloves and boots to be worn at all times; proper tools must be used

Exam #2

Now we’ll need to speak with the students again to get answers to the second exam.

Start by speaking with the student with blonde pigtails.

Then, speak with the student in orange shirt.

And finally, speak with the student in green shirt.

Then, return to the Examiner to take Exam #2.

Exam Answers:

  • (3) Samples taken in rough form; kept only in sealed containers
  • (1) Finds must be carefully handled, and gloves worn
  • (2) Always handle with care; strike cleanly on its cleaving point

Exam #3

Now we’ll need to speak with the students one last time to get answers for the final exam.

Start by speaking with the student with blonde pigtails. Speak with her again to give her an Opal.

Then, speak with the student in orange shirt.

And finally, speak with the student in green shirt.

Then, return to the Examiner to take Exam #3.

Exam Answers:

  • (1) Samples cleaned, and carried only in specimen jars
  • (1) Brush carefully and slowly using short strokes
  • (3) Handle bones very carefully and keep them away from other samples

Discovery

Now search the highlighted cupboard in the exam centre to find a specimen jar.

Now run to the northeastern corner of The Dig Site and use your trowel on the soil.

Continue digging until you find an Ancient Talisman.

Return to the exam centre.

Speak with an archeological expert. He will give you an invitation letter.

Use the invitation letter on ANY workmen.

Digging Deeper

Use a rope on the winch in the northwestern section.

Next, operate the winch.

Down here, Pick up Arcenia Root.

Next, run down and search brick.

Climb back up the rope.

Now use a rope on the northeastern winch.

Then, operate it.

Down there, speak with Doug Deeping. Dialogue: 4

Once you’ve received his key, climb back up.

Run South to the first tent where you found the Panning Tray. Here, use the key on the chest.

Now use a trowel to open the closed barrel outside the tent.

Next, use an empty vial on it.

Return to the Exam Centre.

RIGHT-CLICK use the vial of unidentified liquid on the Archeological expert.

Next, use the chemical powder on the Archeological Expert.

Now mix the Nitroglycerin and Ammonium Nitrate together.

Next, grind some charcoal in your pestle and portal.

Then, use ground charcoal on the vial of mixed chemicals.

And finally, use Arcenia Root on the vial.

You will not have a black vial called ‘Chemical Compound’ in your inventory.

Return to the Dig Site.

Operate the northwestern winch.

Use the chemical compound on Brick. Then, light it with your tinderbox.

Once the entrance is cleared, run to the center of the room and take the Stone Tablet.

Return to the exam centre.

Use the Stone Tablet on the Archeological Expert to finish the quest.
