Following the removal of the Duel Arena, the old school team has designed an exciting PVP update that is going to be MUCH more fun: The PVP Arena.

This article will cover everything you need to know about this very exciting upcoming update.

What is the PVP Arena?

The PVP Arena is a mini-game within OSRS where players queue to fight against other players.

You can either queue up against random players, or you can select a friend you want to fight against.

The arena will also be set in alternate worlds meaning that your account stats do not matter at all. Everyone will have the same stats to keep the PVP Arena fair and balanced.

Think of it like this: the PVP Arena will be a great way to learn how to PK without any risks or having to train an account, complete quests, etc!

How will it work?

When queueing a PVP Arena match, you will be able to choose between a 1v1 battle or a 1v1 tournament.

The 1v1 battle is a simple one-off battle vs another random person based on the matchmaking system. You can play either ranked or unranked.

The 1v1 Tournament will set up a PVP-based tournament with 4 – 64 players. In this tournament, players will face each other in a 1v1 battle. Kind of like a soccer or basketball tournament.

how pvp arena tournament mode will work
This is a joke lol. I suck at PVP.

When a player wins, they progress to the next round, if they lose, they get removed from the tournament and can queue for another one. The last person standing, wins the tournament!

Fun fact: you will also be able to create your own tournaments with friends! These tournaments will not give you rewards but they can be a great activity for a friend group or clan.

How to join the PVP Arena?

You will be able to join the PVP arena from a new menu within the grouping menu.

This makes it so that you DO NOT HAVE TO WAIT for a game to start.

Instead, you can just enjoy the main game (do some skilling, bossing) while you wait for a game to start.

Once the fight is over, you will be teleported right back to where you were in-game before.

What will the stats be?

Every person in the PVP Arena will have the following stats:

AttackStrengthDefenceRangedMagicPrayerHitpointsAgility
5050705050999999

On top of that, you will be able to choose a primary combat style which will increase your stats.

Here are the options:

  1. Melee: 85 Attack + 95 Strength buff
  2. Ranged: 95 Ranged buff
  3. Magic: 95 Magic buff

Next, you have to choose a secondary combat style (cannot be the same):

  1. Melee: 70 Attack + 80 Strength buff
  2. Ranged: 80 Ranged buff
  3. Magic: 80 Magic buff

How does the matchmaking work?

The matchmaking for the PVP Arena will work on a rank-based system similar to games such as Valorant and League of Legends.

For every battle or tournament you win, you will receive rank points.

When queueing for a 1v1 battle or tournament, the PVP Arena will assign you someone else within the same rank.

Reward system

For every 1v1 battle or tournament that you win, you will receive both rank points and reward points.

Rank Points: The more points, the higher your rank.

Reward Points: these can be used on the PVP Arena Reward Store.

PVP Arena Release Date

Currently, the PVP Arena is planned for release in May of 2020.

PVP Arena Rewards

Wristbands of the Arena: Barrows Gloves Replacement

Wristbands of the Arena is a reward from the pvp arena that can replace the barrows gloves in pvp

These gloves will have the exact same stats as Barrows Gloves + higher accuracy.

They also only require 30 defence to equip, as opposed to Barrows Gloves’ 41 defence requirement.

There is only one caveat: you can only use wristbands of the arena for PVP-based combat. (e.g. PKing)

If you want to do any type of bossing, you will still have to quest your way to barrows gloves.

They will be untradeable.

Centurion Curiass: Fighter Torso Replacement

Centurion Curiass is a reward from the pvp arena that can replace the Fighter Torso in pvp

This item has similar stats to the fighter torso + higher defence bonuses.

It will require 40 defence to wear and will be untradeable as well.

Just like the wristbands, you can only use this item for PVP combat.

Calamity Chest & Breeches: Void Replacement

These are chest and bottom pieces that have similar stats to the void knight equipment.

Just like void, you will need to wear a full set to get the set effect.

You’ll have to pair the Calamity Chest & Breeches with Moama, Koriff, and Saika headgear.

They will be untradeable and can only be used in PVP-style combat.

But wait, there’s more.

The Calamity Chest & Breeches will come in 3 tiers: regular, superior, and elite.

Regular Calamity Chest & Breeches

These will not require any stats to equip. Great for low-level purse. They have worse stats than regular void.

Superior Calamity Chest & Breeches

superior calamity chest and breeches will replace void in pvp

These have slightly better stats than regular void. They will require 55 defence to equip.

Elite Calamity Chest & Breeches

elite calamity chest and breeches will replace void in pvp

These have better attack and defensive stats than regular and elite void. They will require 78 defence to equip.

Moama’s Headgear: Void Melee Replacement

This helmet will replace the void melee helm and should be paired with the Calamity Chest & Breeches.

It comes in three variants: Med helm (0 defence), Full helm (55 defence), and Great helm (78 defence).

  • Moama’s Med helm: +7.5% melee damage | Ranged damage reduced by 5% (requires 0 defence)
  • Moama’s Full helm: +10% melee damage | Ranged damage reduced by 7.5% (requires 55 defence)
  • Moama’s Great helm: + 12,5% melee damage | Ranged damage reduced by 10% (requires 78 defence)

Koriff’s Headgear: Void Ranged Replacement

This helmet will replace the void Ranged helm and should be paired with the Calamity Chest & Breeches.

It comes in three variants: Headband (0 defence), Cowl (55 defence), and Coif (78 defence).

  • Koriff’s Headband: +7.5% Ranged damage/accuracy | Magic damage reduced by 5% (requires 0 defence)

It comes in three variants: Hood (0 defence), Veil (55 defence), and Shroud (78 defence).

  • Saika’s Hood : +7.5% Magic damage/accuracy | Melee damage reduced by 5% (requires 0 defence)
  • Saika’s Veil: +10% Magic damage/accuracy | Melee damage reduced by 7.5% (requires 55 defence)
  • Saika’s Shroud: + 12,5% Magic damage/accuracy | Melee damage reduced by 10% (requires 78 defence)

Amulet of Souls Scroll

This scroll can be used on an Amulet of Fury + Onyx to create the Amulet of Souls.

amulet of souls osrs

This amulet has to be charged with death and soul runes.

If someone kills you while wearing a charged amulet of souls, you will be revived with 5 hitpoints left.

This amulet seems kind of OP and annoying and I’m not sure it will actually make it in the game unless tweaked.

Other PVP Arena rewards

Other rewards include: new blighted sacks, new ornament kits and the ability to imbue items here using reward points as an alternative to imbueing from the Nightmare Zone.

Why was the Duel Arena Replaced?

The Duel Arena was removed because it was being pestered by Real World Trading.

Often nicknamed ‘The Sand Casino’, the duel arena had become a place where players would gamble for millions and billions of in-game currency which they would then sell for real money.

Since selling and buying osrs gold is against the game’s terms of service, they had to get rid of this gambling paradise within OSRS.

They promised us a replacement that would make PVP fun again and I think they did a pretty good job. The PVP Arena sounds like a great way to hone your PVP skills and gain some useful PVP rewards in the process!
