The Dragon axe is the second best woodcutting axe in OSRS, just behind the Crystal axe. This OSRS Dragon Axe guide covers everything you need to know about this axe.

The Dragon Axe Specs

The dragon axe requires 60 attack to equip and 61 woodcutting if you want to use it for chopping logs.

The dragon axe is 10% more efficient than the rune axe.

It has a special attack which can be used every 5 minutes and increases the woodcutting EXP rate by 1%. The special attack lasts 2 minutes every time it’s used.

The cool thing about the special attack is that it lets you use the dragon axe from level 58 woodcutting instead of 61 woodcutting. As long as you have the 60 attack to equip it of course.

*The special attack boost does not stack with the woodcutting cape boost.

Upgrade Dragon Axe Into Infernal Axe

how to upgrade the osrs dragon axe into the infernal axe

By using a smouldering stone on a dragon axe (requires 85 firemaking), you can create an infernal axe

The cool thing about creating the infernal axe is that it will give a 1/3 chance of burning a log, giving you fire making experience while you are training woodcutting.

This is a good way to combine woodcutting and firemaking training

The infernal axe has 5000 charges in total, meaning you can burn 5000 logs (or chop 15000 logs) before the infernal axe degrades back to a dragon axe.

The smouldering stone currently costs 1.1M so it’s not an affordable option for every player. (200gp per charge)

Please note: turning the dragon axe into an infernal axe makes the infernal axe untradeable and you cannot undo it.

Other items that have an “infernal” equivalent are: Infernal harpoon (fishing) and infernal pickaxe (mining). These are created the same way and have a similar effect.

Upgrade Dragon Axe Into Crystal Axe

how to upgrade the osrs dragon axe into the crystal axe

At a singing bowl, players can turn a dragon axe into a crystal axe by combining it with 120 crystal shards and a crystal tool seed (1.6m). This process requires the player to have 76 smithing and crafting.

Alternatively, if you don’t have the skill requirements, you can ask NPC Conwenna or Reese to sing the crystal for you instead. They will charge an extra 60 crystal shards fee to do this.

How to get the dragon axe on an iron man?

Of course, not everyone can just by the dragon axe from the grand exchange (it’s only 40K!). Dragon axes cannot be smithed or obtained any other way then through a monster drop.

Meaning ironman players will have to kill one of the following monsters:

  • Dagannoth Prime (lvl 303) 1/128 drop rate
  • Dagannoth Rex (lvl 303) 1/128 drop rate
  • Dagannoth Supreme (lvl 303) 1/128 drop rate
